Muay Thai-Thai Boxing-can trace its origins back more than 2000 years to the tribes of the Ao Lai who migrated from southern China down to the central plains of Siam, known today as Thailand. It is difficult to trace and track its true origins as all records of Thai history was destroyed in the Ayuddhaya period. The history has been pieced together as it passed down from generation to generation, student to teacher and teacher to student.
What we do know is that a martial art was created that combined and transformed hands, legs, elbows and knees into deadly weapons. This is often refferred to as "The science of the 8 limbs". The advances of technology and social media has allowed this much loved style and technique to wrap its arms around other styles like Kick boxing and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Influencing the style of K1, PRIDE and the Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC) whereby the strikes and stratagems of Muay Thai can now be found in nearly every bout. |
